Note : Mammography and FNAB are recommended only where there is a doubt and women from the average economic segments of society in India cannot afford high cost of Mammography. These are, of course, not carried out as routinely as in the West.
In addition, a compulsory module on cancer education is given to women for the following reasons:
- Women are very vulnerable to cancer
- They can at least influence the next generation on prudent lifestyles, even if the present generation is left to themselves to mend their ways to leave the habit of tobacco use and change their lifestyles
- They have better communication skills to spread the message
- In majority of Indian families, women organize food in their houses and can take care of the prudent diet needs within their own means for general health of their family.
In addition, cancer education focuses on harmful effects of tobacco, need for observing prudent life styles and how to prevent cancer, what prudent diet they can manage within their own means and what preventive and defensive measures are necessary to safeguard themselves.
